JAMES BROCKMAN
Apprenticed finisher in Oxford and studied under Ivor Robinson
at Oxford Polytechnic. From 1968-73 worked with Sydney Cockerell at Cambridge.
Started and managed The Eddington Bindery 1973-76. Started own workshop
1976. Arts Fellow, University of Wales, Gregynog 1982-83.
First visiting lecturer at the Institute of Fine Binding and Book Conversation, Humanities Research Centre, University of Texas. President of Designer Bookbinders 1985-87.
Invented and successfully produced alternative structures e.g. laced-in tapes, split board linen joint attachment, and single hinge and concave spine bindings. Lectured and demonstrated in Europe, U.S.A., Canada and Australia..
