208 x 141 x 29mm
Bound by Peter Jones
Multi-coloured
binding mainly in goatskin using inlay, onlay and scarf jointing techniques.
Oak strips inlaid into each board, blind tooling. All edges solid black.
Leather joints, Japanese paper doublures.
The design for this Man Booker Prize binding is based on abstracted versions
of four images representing pivotal episodes within the narrative. Three
images read across the whole binding in chronological order: Edward and Florence’s
first meeting, the honeymoon bed, and their consequential parting on Chesil
beach.
The fourth image is for the reader to find.
