Playing Small: Artists' Books in Miniature

Tutor: Nesta Davies
Dates: 8 - 9 February 2020
Times: 10.00am - 5.00pm
Venue: Manchester
Fee: GBP185.00 (plus materials payable on the day)

Over the course of two days we'll be looking at a range of playful book structures, trying out and adapting them for work on a miniature scale. We will consider the structure of the pages, playing with elements such as folds, movement, colour and content so that by the end of the weekend we can each have produced a unique miniature artist's book.

You are welcome to come with ideas for content, some pre-course preparation will be helpful, but is not obligatory!

Materials cost £5 per person, payable on the day. Some small tools will be available to purchase on the course.

Nesta Davies studied bookbinding at the London College of Printing and City Lit, London. She is a self-employed bookbinder, conservator and teacher, and runs her own studio, Leafwork, in Dorset. She has taught widely, for many years at City Lit, and now increasingly for groups and societies around the country.

From 2001 - 2012 she was commissioning editor of The New Bookbinder. In 2017 Nesta was selected to be amongst the Fifty Dorset Makers in Making Dorset. She has books in collections in the UK and abroad (including the Neale Albert collection of miniature bindings).
